Trending in Textiles

Atlanta native Isobel Parker Mills is an artist who happens to design textiles.  She began her love affair with art and design as a ceramist, and transitioned to fabric design in college at the University of Georgia.  She was drawn to textiles because “fabric, like clay, could be manipulated in numerous ways (folded, knitted, pleated, felted, etc.) and (she could) design and color the material, too.”  Now based in New York City, Isobel is working mostly with interiors, though she hopes to begin dabbling in outdoor fabrics, sleepwear, bedding, and even the sculpture side of textiles, as soon as time and space allow.  Her designs are vibrant, sophisticated and fun, and we predict we’ll be seeing them everywhere.  Take a look at a few of our favorites!           “I approach each design differently. Some are hand drawn or painted and, as of late, sewed, and then scanned into photoshop to be cleaned, colored and repeated. Others are drawn in Photoshop and/or Illustrator, where I then manipulate, color and repeat from there. I’ve recently been experimenting with scanning my sewn art and textured, woven fabrics, to create an extra element of interest and dimension.”         www.btodwelling.com... read more
