Trending in Textiles

Atlanta native Isobel Parker Mills is an artist who happens to design textiles.  She began her love affair with art and design as a ceramist, and transitioned to fabric design in college at the University of Georgia.  She was drawn to textiles because “fabric, like clay, could be manipulated in numerous ways (folded, knitted, pleated, felted, etc.) and (she could) design and color the material, too.”  Now based in New York City, Isobel is working mostly with interiors, though she hopes to begin dabbling in outdoor fabrics, sleepwear, bedding, and even the sculpture side of textiles, as soon as time and space allow.  Her designs are vibrant, sophisticated and fun, and we predict we’ll be seeing them everywhere.  Take a look at a few of our favorites!           “I approach each design differently. Some are hand drawn or painted and, as of late, sewed, and then scanned into photoshop to be cleaned, colored and repeated. Others are drawn in Photoshop and/or Illustrator, where I then manipulate, color and repeat from there. I’ve recently been experimenting with scanning my sewn art and textured, woven fabrics, to create an extra element of interest and dimension.”         www.btodwelling.com...

Make a splash: the backyard pool

As the weather turns warmer, our thoughts turn to summer and the backyard pool.  More than just an afterthought, today’s pool is a true extension of the home, an outdoor retreat for playing, entertaining, or simply relaxing on a sunny afternoon.  That turquoise water is beckoning, and we can’t wait to jump in!                         Happy Summer from bto dwelling!...

bto dwelling: Taking Design….Beyond the Ordinary

Off to the Races! The Kentucky Derby is just a few days away, so of course that’s got us thinking…..about hats!  Hats are all about personal expression.  Bold or classic, bohemian or contemporary, hats can take an outfit from the ordinary to the sublime.   In the same way, the “hats” of interior design — a fabulous painting, a statement light fixture,  a brightly colored sofa — can transform a room in an instant.  So put on your Sunday best, mix up a mint julep and enjoy a peek at Kentucky Derby style.                                     OFF TO THE RACES bto dwelling...
